The Grammys of oceans-related music, feat. Snoop Dogg and Neil Young

Hey, how about the Grammys? Person X won, and Ensemble Y lost and totally should have won, and OMG did you see what Vacant Starlet was wearing?

OK, so I didn't watch it.

Nevertheless, we here at Water Blogged are excited to join in the fun and hopefully the page hits that are to be had in the Grammy afterglow. So today we present to you a few oceans-related music videos and arbitrarily declare them either winners or losers, as is inevitable in life.

Winner, best funky-stern heraldry of humanity's arrival at the
plastic-covered shores of Dystopia
Gorillaz and Snoop Dogg, "Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach"

Winner, most lifelike raingear
but
Loser, least lifelike old fishermen
however
Winner, best overall beards
Modest Mouse, "Dashboard"

Winner, best excuse to post a Led Zeppelin song
and
Loser, lyrics
except for
Winner, best lead-in by a drummer (spoken word)
Led Zeppelin, "The Ocean"

Winner, song with ocean-conscious lyrics that were way ahead of their time
Marvin Gaye, "Mercy Mercy Me"

Winner, most unsettling whaling-related animation:
Modest mouse, "King Rat"

And finally, in a tip of the battered hat to a famous Canadian who got his second Grammy, we present one more:

Winner, best Neil Young song to have the word "ocean" in the title
Neil Young, "I'm the Ocean"

So, what do you think? Have a personal favorite that we've forgotten? Let us know in the comments!

  2. The Besnard Lakes, "Like the Ocean, Like the Innocent" for most incomprehensible lyrics that are supposedly about the ocean and definitely don't sound innocent.

  4. Awesome comments everyone! And Dorthea, I knew you'd come through with stuff that was way too cool for me.

I'm waiting for "Anonymous" to show up and disparage everyone's taste in music.
