Victory on Tanker Ban Motion, Victory for the Coast

In case you haven't been following Water Blogged over the past few days, you may have missed our urgent appeals to phone/write your MP and urge him/her to vote in favour of a motion in support of a legislated tanker ban on Canada’s Pacific North Coast. Well, those phone calls and emails paid off: the motion was carried tonight in the House of Commons!

Bravo!
The motion is non-binding, but reflects the high level of bi-partisan support for a tanker ban in British Columbia. On behalf of all of us here at Living Oceans Society, I would like to thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns (which obviously did not fall on deaf ears).
As a reward for your efforts (if today's victory isn't reward enough in itself), I will direct you to a sideshow of photos from the Great Bear Rainforest, taken by the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP). They say many thousands of words about what is worth protecting from the threat of oil spills on our coast.
